All board members and subcommittee members of the
Breast and Prostate Cancer Association are dedicated volunteers.

Our Subcommittees

In 2003 Sandy Cassidy had the vision to set up the first rural subcommittee, which was Emerald. We now have 14 rural subcommittees, including Brisbane, across rural Queensland to fundraise and provide Cancer Care Nurses and Patient Assistant Grants. Each Subcommittee is staffed by volunteers many of whom are cancer survivors.

Augathella

In the far southwest of Queensland, Augathella Subcommittee was established in July 2018.

Prostate Cancer Support Group was established in 2008. Funds raised are utilized to support patients and nurses in the central west region from Winton, Longreach, Barcaldine to Blackall and as far as Birdsville to the border of the Northern Territory.

Blackbutt

In the South Burnett Region, Blackbutt Subcommittee was established in 2011. Patients are generally referred via Kingaroy and Toowoomba Cancer Care Nurses.

Emerald

In Central West Queensland, Emerald Subcommittee was the first Subcommittee to be established in 2003. It was instrumental in establishing the Breast Care Nurse in the central highlands and later funding a prostate nurse position.

This Subcommittee was established in 2014. In 2007 Brisbane had previously established a Breast Care Nurse in the region after identifying inadequate support services for breast cancer patients.

On the border of Queensland and New South Wales, this Subcommittee was established in 2012. Sufficient funds were raised by this Subcommittee to acquire a Cancer Care Nurse in 2018.

Mackay

Nearly 1,000km north of Brisbane on the coast, this Subcommittee was established in 2019. QCoal Foundation has provided a substantial grant to help establish a patient support program in this region.

In the Maranoa region of Queensland, this Subcommittee was established in 2008. Patients are referred via Toowoomba and Dalby Cancer Care Teams.

In Central Queensland, on the Fitzroy River, this Subcommittee was established in 2014.  The nursing staff at Rockhampton Mater Hospital have been instrumental in fundraising for patient assistance grants.

In Southwest Queensland Region, in the Shire of Balonne, this Subcommittee was established in 2005. The funds raised have enabled the establishment and funding of Cancer Care Nurses in this region.

Toowoomba

In the Darling Downs Region, this Subcommittee was established in 2008. Many patient assistant grants are referred to us through the Cancer Care team at Toowoomba Hospital. The Glenrose Patchwork Quilters based in Warwick, have contributed substantially to BPCAQ over the years.

Weengallon

This branch was established as part of the St George Subcommittee. The Weengallon patient fund was established in 2021 to assist cancer patients living in rural and remote districts where BPCAQ did not have a Subcommittee based in a town. The Weengallon Pink Ladies Day Committee contributed more than $250,000 towards the funding for St George and Goondiwindi Cancer Care Nurse positions as well as patient assistant grants for those districts.
